Kumquat Art & Home opened its’ doors on November 1st, 1997 with the idea of selling “happy, friendly art from new and local artists” in an unassuming environment. Everything in the store is handmade in America with a few products from Europe. Handmade in California is the first choice. The painters are always from the Bay Area.
Owner Keverne Tuomey says that "little businesses are what drive this nation. Now more than ever, it is important to support small businesses." Kumquat Art & Home plays Cuban, Latin American and Reggae music to add an energetic feel to the store. Freelance, her Black Lab Mix, was her business partner but unfortunately recently passed away from old age. “Freelance was an integral part of the store. She was here since Day 1. She sold, she guarded, she demanded belly rubs and she just knew how to sit in the doorway and look cute, elegant and friendly – she was perfect for the gallery.” We have recently adopted Reno, a wonderful Black Lab who was desperate for a loving home. He already has a large fan club at Kumquat! Please come and meet him. He would surely have Freelance approval!
